COMMUNITIES TRANSITION TO

REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE

THE

PLACE

Almost Heaven Farms is a permaculture demonstration, training, research and resource centre based out of Ilam, Nepal in the eastern hillside of the Himalayas. Much more than only organic farming and beyond sustainable, they work with farmers to adapt to climate change and join the global effort to repair the damage done to the earth, restoring local soils, water sources and ecologies.

WORK DESCRIPTION

In 2019, Juanfran came to Nepal for the first time. The impact on the permaculture centre and the surrounding community was huge leading to a significant shift to organic agriculture in the area. AHF then developed a biofertilizer production unit and became the first demonstration centre in Nepal to teach these revolutionary practices.

The centre is now helping to change local villagers whole farming approach, especially empowering tea farmers to transition away from using synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.

LIVING AGRICULTURE

The centre is also currently running trials on different vegetables, tea and rice crops in order to perfect the application method, make it appropriate for Nepali farmers and to show the benefits of adopting these techniques. AHF offers workshops teaching farmers how to grow nutrient dense foods to feed their families and the communities across Nepal. Juanfran continues to support by consulting on the research trials and advising on all aspects of developing biofertilizer use in Nepal.
