THE
PLACE
The Seed and Knowledge Initiative (SKI) is a dynamic partnership. SKI partners work with smallholder farmers to become more seed, food and nutritionally secure through farmer-led seed systems, improved crop diversity, agroecology and the revival of local knowledge systems. While we have relationships with a number of organisations and individuals all over the world, our primary stakeholders are the farmers we work with in Malawi, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
WORK DESCRIPTION
Juanfran Lopez collaborates with SKI as external supporter to SKI partners, introducing an innovative approach to soil management, mainly focused on the production and adoption of bio-fertilisers towards enhanced soil fertility.
The objective of this work is to gradually build skills that support local farmers to adopt these bio-fertilisers, and produce it themselves. The methodology is adapted to the local context and the availability of materials.

LIVING AGRICULTURE
The approach is to build a team of experts on the ground, able to adapt and improve the practices they learned and to transfer the knowledge from farmer to farmer. In this way the farmer is placed at the centre of decision making.
The positive impact of bio-fertilisers on soil health, has been researched and documented. Its combination of accessibility and effectiveness therefore has huge potential to improve the livelihoods of communities in southern Africa.
